Bill Nye 'Science Guy' confuses South Pole with North in global warming debate

During a debate on climate change conducted during..."Meet The Press," Bill Nye, known as "The Science Guy," seemed to have his poles a bit confused, holding a picture of the Arctic while discussing the Antarctic, Climate Depot reported.

"Would you say that the Antarctic has less ice than it used to?" he asked Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., while holding a picture of the Arctic.

Blackburn didn't get a chance to answer the question as David Gregory suddenly moved the discussion to another topic.

As of Feb. 7, 2014, the Antarctic Sea Ice Extent was 904,000 square kilometers above the 1981-2010 mean and 220,000 square kilometers above 2008.

Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 Downed Over Warzone Ukraine. Who Was Behind It? Cui Bono?

"Flying over warzone Ukraine, The probable and Convenient Happens

At no juncture during the Ukrainian crisis could the downing of Malaysian Boeing 777 flight MH17 have been more convenient for NATO and its proxy regime in Kiev.

Kiev’s forces were being picked apart in eastern Ukraine with several units encircled and destroyed. In the west of the country, dissent was growing by Ukrainians unwilling to march off to fight in the east. NATO’s attempts to bait Russia into moving into Ukrainian territory and shift global opinion against Moscow had repeatedly failed."

Flag flap: If Scotland opts out of the U.K., the Union Jack could need dramatic surgery

"   “Britain isn’t cool, you know
    It’s really not that great.
    It’s not a proper country,
It doesn’t even have a patron saint.
    It’s just an economic union,
    That’s past its sell-by date”

— from Take Down the Union Jack by Billy Bragg.

On Sept. 18, the people of Scotland will vote on the break-up of Britain.

The ripple effects of a vote for independence will be felt around the globe and one of the most visible would be to render obsolete one of the world’s most recognizable flags, the Union Jack.

For two centuries, the iconic Union Flag has fluttered from the flagpoles of Royal Navy ships — in the form of the battle flag, the White Ensign — as Britain ruled the waves."

The Edge of a Cold, Deep Abyss?

"The warmists have their models, grants and tidings of doom, but the researchers whose tree ring data has best predicted recent temperature trends see the mercury dropping, perhaps by as much as 4 degrees. If they are right, then there is reason to be worried, very worried indeed.

If this sounds like the reverse echo of the global warming crowd, how often have leftist wealth-redistributors been right about anything?  Given their track record, the exact opposite is the more likely outcome.  We should be ever thankful to them though. If it wasn’t for their melodramatic predictions attracting honest scientists into the climate science field, humanity would be sleepwalking into the climatic and agricultural disruption that is coming.  We will still have the consequent famine and death but we will know what’s causing it at the time.  We are on the edge of that abyss.  A vale of tears awaits.  Good luck to all of good heart."

CBS Blames Global Warming for Bad Winter

"During the February 13 broadcast of CBS This Morning, host Charlie Rose and his guest turned to the topic of this year's harsh winter, calling the extreme cold an example of global warming.

Guest Michio Kaku, a physics professor from New York City College--not a climatologist, but a physicist--claimed that the "wacky weather" could get "even wackier" and its all because of global warming."

Revelations by AOL Boss Raise Fears Over Privacy

"a seemingly offhand reference to “two AOL-ers that had distressed babies that were born that we paid a million dollars each to make sure those babies were O.K.” The comments, made in a conference call with employees, brought an immediate outcry, raising questions over corporate access to and handling of employees’ personal medical data.

Some workers at other companies considered the likelihood that their bosses knew intimate details about their own families’ personal illnesses and treatments — and worried about the potential for those companies to disclose enough details about their health conditions to make them identifiable to colleagues. It was not long before a “distressed babies” meme emerged across social media."

Silicon Valley VC Thinks a Single Bitcoin Will Be Worth $100,000

"Many among the bitcoin faithful believe that current bitcoin prices are on the low side compared to what they will become. You see, there are only a limited number of bitcoins — the worldwide software system that drives the digital currency will stop minting money sometime in the next century, when there are about 21 million in circulation — and this means that a spike in popularity will likely drive a huge increase in price."

Israeli soldier posts Instagram image of Palestinian child in crosshairs of rifle

"Breaking the Silence, an organisation of veteran Israeli combat soldiers campaigning to raise awareness about life in the West Bank, condemned the image. "This is what occupation looks like. This is what military control over a civilian population looks like," one member wrote on the group's Facebook page.

The image has been heavily criticised online. Electronic Intifada, a news site focused on Palestinian issues, described the photograph as "tasteless and dehumanising". The site published several other images from Ostrovski's Instagram page, including snaps of the soldier posing with heavy-duty guns."

Israel using flechette shells in Gaza

"Palestinian human rights group accuses Israel military of using shells that spray out thousands of tiny and potentially lethal darts."

B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights organisation, describes a flechette shell as "an anti-personnel weapon that is generally fired from a tank. The shell explodes in the air and releases thousands of metal darts 37.5mm in length, which disperse in a conical arch 300 metres long and about 90 metres wide".

The munitions are not prohibited under international humanitarian law, but according to B'Tselem, "other rules of humanitarian law render their use in the Gaza Strip illegal."

Nestle CEO says You Shouldn’t Have the Right to Water

"Water is of course the most important raw material we have today in the world. It’s a question of whether we should privatise the normal water supply for the population. And there are two different opinions on the matter. The one opinion, which I think is extreme, is represented by the NGOs, who bang on about declaring water a public right. That means as a human being you should have a right to water. That’s an extreme solution. And the other view says water is a foodstuff like any other and like any other foodstuff it should have a market better. Personally I think it’s better to give foodstuff a market value . . ."

OH REALLY?

"Water — which comes out of the earth freely — is necessary for the survival of every creature and plant on the planet. By making water a commodity — something only accessible from a big corporation like Brabeck dreams — our society will move into a dystopia where corporations decide who gets to live and who gets to die by rationing the most plentiful resource on the planet."

How Food Companies Exploit Americans with Ingredients Banned in Other Countries

"A list of ingredients that are banned across the globe but still allowed for use here in the American food supply recently made news.

Could these banned ingredients be contributing to the higher mortality and disease rates...?

The food industry does not want us to pay attention to the ingredients nor do they care about the negative effects from eating them. They certainly don’t care about the astronomical medical bills that are a direct result of us eating the inferior food they are creating."

Venezuela Airport Now Charging A Breathing Tax

"Anyone departing from the Simon Bolivar International Airport of Maiquetia in Caracas now faces a levy of 127 bolivars ($18) to pay for a new air conditioning unit installed earlier this year, according to a statement on the airport’s website.

The airport says its air conditioning system “eliminates contaminants” and injects ozone into the atmosphere to improve the environment and protect the health of passengers."

Guy shoots up his iPhone with a huge sniper rifle after Apple Inc bans popular Bitcoin app

"Apple Inc.’s ouster of popular Bitcoin app Blockchain from its App Store is causing a backlash, and some are going to extreme measures to show their displeasure.

Apple has been acting to suppress Bitcoin apps for years.

Bitcoins exist only as software, and transactions are completed via computing devices. Even though no physical currency exists, merchants from car dealers and Web stores are accepting the digital money. Mobile apps such as Coinbase, which was removed from the App Store last year, and Blockchain have become a popular way to make payments.

Blockchain had been downloaded 120,000 times before being removed. Apple has already shut out several other applications that facilitate digital-money payments from its online store."

Germany, France to mastermind European data network - bypassing US

"Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande will review plans to build up a trustworthy data protection network in Europe. The challenge is to avoid data passing through the US after revelations of mass NSA spying in Germany and France.

Merkel has been one of the biggest supporters of greater data protection in Europe since the revelations that the US tapped her phone emerged in a Der Spiegel news report in October, based on information leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

Earlier, France learned from reports in Le Monde that the NSA has also been recording dozens of millions of French phone calls, including those of the French authorities. According to the report, in just one month between December 10, 2012 and January 8, 2013, the NSA recorded a total of 70.3 million French phone calls."

Europe Considers Wholesale Savings Confiscation, Enforced Redistribution

CSEC exoneration a 'mockery of public accountability'

"A federal watchdog is attracting howls of protest from some privacy and internet experts after absolving Canada’s electronic spy agency of using data from a Canadian airport internet service to track thousands of passengers for days after they left the terminal.

The oversight body that monitors the super-secretive Communications Security Establishment Canada has concluded that the agency was not involved in “tracking of Canadians or persons in Canada.”

Instead, the oversight body says the spy agency was simply collecting so-called metadata in an exercise “to understand global communications networks.”

By law, CSEC cannot target Canadians anywhere in the world, nor anyone in Canada, including visitors."

The scandal of fiddled global warming data

"The US has actually been cooling since the Thirties, the hottest decade on record

... NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. "When a smartphone user opens Angry Birds, the popular game application, and starts slinging birds at chortling green pigs, spies could be lurking in the background to snatch data revealing the player’s location, age, sex and other personal information, according to secret British intelligence documents.

In their globe-spanning surveillance for terrorism suspects and other targets, the National Security Agency and its British counterpart have been trying to exploit a basic byproduct of modern telecommunications: With each new generation of mobile phone technology, ever greater amounts of personal data pour onto networks where spies can pick it up."

Apollo Astronaut: Climate Alarmism Is the ‘Biggest Fraud in the Field of Science’

"If we go back to the warmist hypothesis - not a theory, but, a hypothesis - they've been saying from the very beginning that carbon dioxide levels are abnormally high, that higher levels of carbon dioxide are bad for humans, and they thought warmer temperatures are bad for our world, and they thought we were able to override natural forces to control the earth's temperature. So, as I've looked into those, that's the problem that I've found, because I didn't find any of those to be correct - and, they certainly were not a theory, it was just their guess at what they wanted to see in the data they were looking at."

Esa's Cryosat sees Arctic sea-ice volume bounce back

"The bounce back in the extent of sea ice in the Arctic this summer was reflected also in the volume of ice.

This is close to 50% more than in the corresponding period in 2012."

Canadian libricide: Tories torch and dump centuries of priceless, irreplaceable environmental archives

"Back in 2012, when Canada's Harper government announced that it would close down national archive sites around the country, they promised that anything that was discarded or sold would be digitized first. But only an insignificant fraction of the archives got scanned, and much of it was simply sent to landfill or burned.

The destruction of these publicly owned collections was undertaken in haste. No records were kept of what was thrown away, what was sold, and what was simply lost. Some of the books were burned."

The blockchain is free speech. It’s decentralized, voluntary, and non-aggressive. Bitcoin is not supposed to work within our current mechanisms. CANADA: By closing the Health Council of Canada, Stephen Harper is abandoning national medicare

"Stephen Harper’s Conservative government is abandoning the essential federal role in Canadian health care.

The federal role is to facilitate national approaches to health system issues and promote the pan-Canadian adoption of best practices and innovation. This is the glue that holds medicare together and keeps it responsive to the evolving needs of the Canadian people. Provinces and territories cannot perform this role. The vacuum in federal leadership will fragment the health care system into 14 separate systems operating independently from each other. This fragmentation undermines the core principles of the Canada Health Act, especially comprehensive coverage and portability between provinces and territories."
